Joseph M. Gant is a glassblower by trade. Though he holds a degree in Scientific Glass Technology, his life’s study has encompassed many variables. A long-time student of Tibetan religion and culture, science buff, musician, and lover of world literature, Joseph is ultimately a writer. His work has appeared across the spectrum of small press zines and academic journals. He currently lives in the Philadelphia area where he edits poetry for a handful of publications and works on his novel.

Wonderful Collection

Admittedly, I don't read much poetry. In fact, I can't recall ever having read a poetry book cover-to-cover. Then I found Zero Division.
I picked up a friend's copy and flipped through the pages to kill some time. When we left the apartment, I carried the book with me to finish in the car. Zero Division is not what I expected from a contemporary poetry collection. First, it is an entertaining read. At their very least, these poems are accesible. At their best, they are expressions of art that one need not have a literary background to appreciate.
While some of the subject matter is a bit strange for my taste and at times graphic, Gant presents it all in a way that lacks pretense. Reading Zero Division was a treat; it dispelled so many prejudices I had about modern poetry.
If you don't regularly read poetry or you are looking for place to reacquaint yourself with the art form, I recommend this title. To anyone who enjoys language itself as a medium of art, I recommend it highly.
